CONCRETE GUIDE
Concrete Breaking vs. Concrete Cutting
Breaking and cutting are different tools for different concrete-removal conditions, and many projects use both.
BREAKING
Best for reduction and removal
Hydraulic breaking is effective for thick slabs, foundations, pads and concrete components that need to be reduced for loading and removal.
CUTTING
Best for control and limits
Saw cutting helps define edges, isolate a removal area and protect concrete that is intended to remain.
COMBINATION
Many jobs need both
A slab can be saw-cut around the perimeter and then broken internally for efficient removal.
PLANNING
Thickness, rebar and access matter
Concrete thickness, reinforcement, nearby utilities, water management, dust control and equipment access all affect the chosen method.
